Dr Yousef Al-Horr is the Chairman and Managing Director of Barwa and Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI), which aims to develop new knowledge, tools, processes, techniques and continuing education for professionals involved in building energy and technology. The goal is to create healthier, productive, energy efficient strategies that will lead to high performance buildings and sustainable environments. BQDRI is engaged in the creation, application and dissemination of knowledge as well as consulting and certification. The institute provides support to the construction industry to accelerate adoption, practice and application of sustainable solutions and technology within the building environment. In addition, the institute is actively involved in attracting and building strong consortium and network of local, regional and global research institutions, companies, governmental and professional organizations that have genuine interest and commitment to support the strategic objectives of the institute.Previously, Dr Al-Horr held various positions with different responsibilities within Brawa Real Estate Company as President of Strategy and Investment, and Deputy CEO for Operations. He was heavily involved in managing the strategic planning and capital allocation activities and supports functional leaders in developing specific strategies to support corporate strategic goals and to capture growth opportunities across various segments, markets, products of the real estate industry. He also worked in the restructuring of the group in response to the expansion and growth opportunities as well as the regional changes of the real estate market. He led several key initiatives that support the growth and positioning of Barwa as key regional player in the real estate market place. Dr. Al-Horr has held a variety of strategic positions in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Barwa Real Estate Co. Dr Al-Horr worked as Assistant Vice President for Research Affairs at Qatar University (Doha, Qatar) and made positive contribution to the university development projects, assumed several assignments and responsibilities. Dr. Yousef Al-Horr graduated from Qatar University, and then joined the George Washington University (USA) where he obtained his Masters degree in 1996. In 2000, he obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester Sciences and Technology University (UK). In his successful career, Dr Al-Horr has been involved in several projects in the strategic studies, training, development and administration domains, and enjoys vast experience in real estate, media and information. |
